Publisher's Corner If you haven't had a chance yet to check out our very first SCC-TV video that has been posted on the website, you simply must do so. Thanks go out to Angelo, Richard and Norma for the work they put into videoing and figuring out how to post the video of Greg Knobloch's presentation to Sweetwater Camera Club at our June meeting. Once again, our camera club is movin' on up! Kudos to ya'll! This newsletter is going to be a little shorter than normal for two reasons: I waited until the last minute and I waited until the last minute. Actually, the end of the month crept up on me faster than I realized. It's been a very busy one, that's for sure. I made a trip out to Oklahoma City around the beginning of July and will be making another one on August 1 -- this one being dubbed a "Rescue Mission" to bring my daughter and granddaughter home to Georgia!! While it's been a stressful couple of months, when we get back in town, it will have been worth it. My daughter, a single mother, has finally decided to come home after six years of trying to do this on her own. So, to say that I've been busy and just a little sidetracked would be putting it mildly. August Meeting Information Due to popular demand (and because there just wasn't enough time in our July meeting for Greg Knobloch to even get a start on the Photoshop portion of his presentation (hey, he's a talented guy -- it takes a while to get through it all) -- we are very pleased to announce that Greg will be sharing the Photoshop portion of his presentation with us at our Thursday, August 9 meeting. You won't want to miss this, as I'm sure he's got all sorts of tricks up his Photoshop sleeve! Modern Technology Modern technology is absolutely amazing, and the techno geek in me just eats this amazing stuff up! As we speak (or in this case, as I type, I am running down I-40 between mile markers 88 and 87 in the wide, wide state of Arkansas (it seems endless when you're driving through it). Don't worry -- I'm not driving and typing! Our trip to Oklahoma City is in full swing, and I wanted to test our new Sprint mobile broadband network card thingie out. I knew I still had to put a couple of things on the newsletter, so no time like the present! The possibilities with this technology are endless. I can see it now -- I can quit my job, travel the country and work as I go, all the while seeing all the beautiful sites this country has to offer (and taking tons of pictures along the way). Oh well. That was a nice diversion -- but back to reality. I'll be back at my desk in Atlanta on Thursday the 9th. There is one thing I can't do even with all this modern technology. I'm on my husband's laptop, which is smaller than mine, and for some reason, I can't get to where you change the font color, so my heading for this section is black rather than green. If the header IS green, you can thank Richard Nichols for going in and cleaning up after me. If the header is black, you now know why! So, while this newsletter doesn't contain a Tips and Tricks section, it DOES mark another first for Sweetwater Camera Club in Douglasville, Georgia -- the first newsletter published while the publisher was literally riding down the interstate in Arkansas Member Birthdays According to my records, we have two birthday people in the month of August -- both sharing the same birthday! What ARE the odds? Happy birthday to Larry Hunter and Stella Spyrou, who share birthdays on August 2. Website of the Month This month's website will be very interesting and could be helpful for the birders amongst us who are ready to plan a photography get-a-way. I heard about this site on a Nikonians.org podcast as I was driving to work one morning. Go check out www.lensandland.com. The site highlights properties and ranches in south Texas that have been set up for photographers to come in and get shots of birds and wildlife. The property owners on these ranches have set up photo blinds and staged areas to aid photographers in capturing great images of birds and wildlife. Many of these birds are native to the southern Texas area and cannot be seen anywhere else. August Contest: Birds Bring your best bird pictures to the August meeting. For your enjoyment, SCC-TV presents a bird photo montage by Garvin Swims found on YouTube. Garvin has a wide variety of bird photos at http://www.pbase.com/warbler27 .
